Fork Restaurant began as a seasonal pop-up restaurant operated out of Judi Devine’s coffee shop after it closed. The brainchild of Chef Kayla O’Brien and her partner Chef Kyle Puddester, they eventually opened up a portion of their home, turning it into a fine-dining destination. The menu includes seasonal fare using local produce and meats. Eventually, the restaurant will serve produce and herbs grown on farmland on their own property. Pee Pee Island is one of four islands in the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve, located just off the Avalon Peninsula. It is home to the largest Atlantic puffin colony in North America as well as several other species of bird. Access to Pee Pee Island is restricted and, in order to see the puffins and other birds, you must book a charter with a licensed boat captain who will tour the islands and bring you in close enough to see the birds nesting onshore.

Ferryland Lighthouse is a restored lighthouse that is home to Lighthouse Picnics, offering a gourmet picnic basket served that you can enjoy while you relax on the grounds surrounding the lighthouse. After a 25-minute stroll to the lighthouse, order lunch, grab a picnic blanket, and plant a flag where they choose to sit. A gourmet lunch is delivered in a wicker basket along with Mason jars filled with rosemary lemonade. Sit back, enjoy lunch and watch the whales and icebergs pass you by. The lighthouse is about 30 minutes from the island.

The Colony of Avalon was established in 1621 by Sir George Calvert, the First Lord Baltimore, and is one of the best-preserved early English sites in North America, providing a look into the past. The archeological dig has unearthed a portion of the Calvert mansion as well as remains of a warehouse, forge, bakery and brewhouse, a cobblestone street, and even a “sea-flushed privy.” Foundations of the buildings are visible and there is a visitor’s center providing a lot of information as well as displays of some of the artifacts found on the site. The site is located at 1 The Pool in Ferryland, about half an hour from Pee Pee Island.
